Workshops at California Council for Social Studies Conference Give K-12 Teachers Insight Into Adding, Enhancing Economics Across Curriculum

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2007 -- The National Council on Economic Education (NCEE, http://www.ncee.net) today announced its schedule of workshops at the California Council for the Social Studies conference in Oakland, CA on March 2-4.

These workshops use interactive teaching techniques and lesson plans to demonstrate how California teachers can effectively introduce Economics into their K-12 curriculum, or enhance their current Economics program with activity-based lessons, activities, simulations and projects.

"These workshops give teachers at every grade level the tools to teach economics across the curriculum, from instructional technology to assessment resources to AP Economics," says Bill Cooper, a retired teacher from Costa Mesa High School and NCEE's conference workshop coordinator.

During the interactive workshops, teachers will receive background content on teaching economics to the California Economic Content Standards and will simulate a lesson as they would deliver it to their students. Teachers will receive free sample lesson plans, handouts and other resources.

A highlighted resource will include 'Virtual Economics,' NCEE's CD-ROM that contains over 1,200 lesson plans and 51 economic and personal finance concept demonstration.

"Virtual Economics is the single resource no California K-12 teacher should be without," adds Cooper. "Every single lesson is correlated to the California Economic Content Standards, which is a big time saver when you're planning lessons in an already crowded curriculum."

The workshop leaders include:

Kevin Cooper -- an economics teacher at Palos Verdes High School in Palos Verdes Estates, CA. Kevin graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a BA in Social Studies, with an emphasis in economics. He is also a football and baseball coach.

Bill Cooper -- a retired teacher from Costa Mesa High School who has been teaching economics since 1960 and is coordinating NCEE's workshops at the California Council for the Social Studies conference. Bill is past president of CASET, the California Association of School Economics Teachers and an Economics Teacher of the Year award winner.

Patricia Moses -- teaches 7th and 8th grade social studies at Golden West Middle School in Fairfield, CA. Patricia has been an educator for over 13 years.

Brian Shank -- an AP Economics, History and Spanish teacher at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs. Brian is also President of CASET, .
