Myrtle Beach Pavilion Nostalgia Park to Open at Broadway at The Beach
Myrtle Beach, S.C. (PRWeb) March 11, 2007 -- Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., unveiled plans for "The Pavilion Nostalgia Park" today at a press conference at Broadway at the Beach. The Pavilion Nostalgia Park will be a year-round attraction and is expected to open in early summer. It will be located on the east end of Broadway at the Beach near the Carmike Theaters, Hampton Inn and Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Café.
The Pavilion Nostalgia Park's design recalls the atmosphere of The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park which celebrated its Farewell Season in 2006 after 58 years as a recreation focal point for Myrtle Beach residents and visitors. The Myrtle Beach Pavilion's Herschell-Spillman Carousel, which dates back to 1912 and debuted in Myrtle Beach in 1950, and the historic hand-carved German Baden Band Organ, which was first exhibited at the World Exposition in Paris in 1900, will be featured at The Pavilion Nostalgia Park. Popular rides brought to the Nostalgia Park from the former amusement park will include the Tea Cup Ride, Motorcycle Ride, Dune Buggy Ride, kiddie Pirate Ship, Boat Ride, Caterpillar Ride, adult Pirate Ship, and Wave Swinger. Arcade games will be located within the Nostalgia Park and traditional games like the milk can toss will line the park's midway. Favorite carnival foods like funnel cakes, corn dogs and cotton candy will be served. An on-site museum will house artifacts from The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park and a retail store will be available.
"Everything about The Pavilion Nostalgia Park is designed to evoke memories associated with the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park," said Doug Wendel, president and chief executive officer of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. "This park will be a great place for parents and grandparents and their children and grandchildren to reflect on old memories and make new ones."
An instant hit when it opened in 1995, Broadway at the Beach was tagged as being the "New Center of Fun" in Myrtle Beach. 12 years later, attracting almost 14 million visitors per year, Broadway at the Beach now stands on its own as the true center of the City of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. In 2006 alone, 13.8 million people visited the 350-acre shopping, dining, entertainment and attractions destination. Its success is due in large part to Burroughs & Chapin's commitment to seeking out new and unique restaurants, shops and entertainments to add to Broadway's popular mix of offerings. Also known nationwide as Myrtle Beach's "Center of Fun," Broadway at the Beach has become the core of the Grand Strand's tourism market. Greater Broadway at the Beach also includes NASCAR SpeedPark, Myrtle Waves Water Park, the Ripken Experience-Myrtle Beach, NASCAR Café and more.
"We are pleased to be able to bring many of the well-known pieces of The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park to The Pavilion Nostalgia Park at Broadway at the Beach," said J. Egerton Burroughs, chairman of the board of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. "The announcement of the Pavilion's Farewell Season nearly a year ago today was a tough one for all of us at Burroughs & Chapin, but today's announcement represents a wonderful moment for the company and the community. It is our hope that The Pavilion Nostalgia Park will be a place where families can reflect on the memories they made at the old oceanfront park while also creating new memories at Broadway at the Beach for years to come."
