Myrtle Beach Based Carolina Regional Cancer Center Appears in Us Airways Magazine; Informs Visitors About Cancer Care Retreat
Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWeb) March 14, 2007 -- Carolina Regional Cancer Center (CRCC) was one of only two cancer centers to be mentioned in the "Profile: Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand" in the December issue of US Airways Magazine.
The feature highlights CRCC in its "Small Community Big-City Healthcare" section. CRCC has been offering cancer care to patients along the Grand Strand for more than 25 years. Last year The Medical University of South Carolina's Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston and CRCC announced a formal affiliation between the two healthcare providers.
CRCC is also known for pioneering the concept of the "Cancer Care Retreat." The Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat was created in conjunction with Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. and was the first along the East Coast to offer radiotherapeutic treatment within a tranquil resort setting. It is especially designed for individuals living outside the Myrtle Beach area who need to undergo a radiation program and wish to do so away from their home areas, yet in a safe, relaxing and pleasant environment. Family members who travel to Myrtle Beach to be with a cancer patient during the term of treatment can also utilize the retreat's benefits and accommodations rates.
The retreat, which can be individualized on a patient-by-patient basis, includes quality comprehensive cancer care at CRCC, accommodations at the Myrtlewood Villas in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and special rates at selected golf, entertainment and dining venues.
"We are very proud of the specialized treatment our patients receive and we are hopeful that the US Airways article will make more cancer patients aware of the level of care we offer," said Dr. Steven Bass, president and clinical director for CRCC. " Our Cancer Care Retreat is just one example of how we go the extra mile to relieve some of the stress associated with cancer. We not only provide state-of-the-art medical treatment and quality cancer care, but we can help them to affordably obtain temporary accommodations with dining, shopping, entertainment or just a relaxing walk on the beach, just minutes away."
The Myrtlewood Villas offer guests a tranquil setting along the golf courses of Myrtlewood Golf Club. Rates may vary depending on time of year reservations are made. Retreat participants are provided special attention when they pre-register with Estelle Boyd or Rick Schultz at Myrtlewood Villas, (888) 297-6200 or (843) 913-4437.
On behalf of prospective Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat participants, CRCC has also coordinated with a number of area physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists, and spas to meet additional needs patients may have while undergoing radiation treatment at CRCC. A listing of participating physicians and organizations is available online at www.CRCCmd.com.
The Myrtle Beach area is also home to various cancer support groups that welcome active participation. Such groups include Look Good Feel Better, Mercy Hospice of Horry County, Reach to Recovery, SOS, Bosom Buddies, and Strand Prostate Cancer Support Group.
CRCC is located near some of the area's top medical facilities including Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, located at 81st Ave. in Myrtle Beach; Conway Medical Center just off U.S. 501 in Conway; and Loris Healthcare System, located in downtown Loris and accessible by connecting to U.S. 9 in North Myrtle Beach.
Additional information about the Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat is available at www.CRCCmd.com or by calling (843) 449-9415.
